The 8.7/15kV Aluminum Power Cable is a medium-voltage power transmission and distribution cable engineered to deliver stable performance, high conductivity, and long-term durability in demanding industrial and utility environments. Designed in accordance with IEC, ICEA, and other international standards, this cable is suitable for underground installations, cable ducts, power stations, substations, commercial facilities, and renewable-energy projects. Its aluminum conductor provides a cost-efficient alternative to copper while maintaining excellent electrical characteristics, making it ideal for large-scale electrical infrastructure.
The conductor is made of high-purity, compacted or stranded aluminum, ensuring low resistance, enhanced flexibility, and optimized current-carrying capacity. Around the conductor, a semi-conductive layer ensures smooth electric-field control, improving insulation performance and preventing partial discharge. The primary insulation uses cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), known for its thermal stability, high dielectric strength, and resistance to chemical aging. This insulation system maintains structural integrity even under continuous operating temperatures up to 90°C and short-circuit temperatures up to 250°C.
To further enhance safety, a second semi-conductive screening layer is extruded over the insulation to ensure uniform stress distribution and smooth bonding with metallic shielding. The metallic screen—commonly copper tape, copper wire, or aluminum wire—provides efficient fault-current return paths, electromagnetic shielding, and improved system reliability. The screen design can be customized depending on fault-current requirements and installation conditions.
A durable inner sheath provides mechanical separation and protection for the screen. This layer can be polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), or low-smoke, halogen-free (LSZH) material depending on the intended installation environment. For environments requiring enhanced mechanical strength—such as direct burial or rocky terrain—an optional armor layer can be added. Steel wire armor (SWA) or aluminum wire armor (AWA) offers strong impact resistance and crush protection, enabling the cable to withstand harsh construction and operating conditions.
The outer sheath is formulated for long-term environmental resistance, protecting the cable against UV radiation, moisture, oil, corrosion, and chemical exposure. LSZH sheathing is recommended for applications where fire safety and low-toxicity emissions are critical, such as tunnels, public buildings, and enclosed power-distribution areas. The combination of XLPE insulation and high-resistance sheathing materials ensures the cable operates reliably in both indoor and outdoor installations, including humid, coastal, and industrial environments.
The 8.7/15kV aluminum cable delivers stable electrical performance, low dielectric loss, and strong overload capability. Its lightweight aluminum design reduces transportation and installation costs, simplifies handling, and enables longer installation lengths. The medium-voltage rating ensures effective distribution of electrical power over medium distances with minimal voltage drop and increased system efficiency. The cable is also designed to reduce electromagnetic interference and maintain consistent power quality, even in networks with fluctuating load conditions.
Typical applications include electrical-grid distribution lines, industrial plants, mining sites, metro and rail networks, wind and solar power generation, wastewater treatment facilities, and commercial complexes. The cable can be installed underground, in cable trays, conduits, or directly buried depending on design requirements. Custom configurations—such as single-core or three-core structures, armored or non-armored designs, and specialized sheathing options—allow the cable to be tailored to specific operational needs.
With its robust construction, strong electrical characteristics, and high safety performance, the 8.7/15kV Aluminum Power Cable is a reliable and cost-effective solution for modern medium-voltage power distribution systems. It supports long-term system stability, reduces maintenance costs, and ensures dependable power supply across critical infrastructure projects.
